Even with still two races left, the Philippine Sailing Association team, skippered by Emerson Villena, has all but secured the coveted title in the inaugural FarEast 28R competitions of the Subic Bay Regatta Cup on Friday at the Subic Bay Freeport Zone.
Villena, a former 470 dinghy champion, showcased his championships pedigree as he swept the first six races to gain a firm grip on the leadership in the week-long competitions presented by Standard Insurance Inc.
The PSA team has already accumulated five total points with one drop, giving him some precious time to rest and recover instead of competing in the last two matches.
Alan Chua’s Centennial II and Bernice Foo’s Singapore Sailing/Singapore Maritime University were locked in a neck-to-neck battle for the bridesmaid position.
Meanwhile, Singapore Sailing has 14 points, one over Centennial II, after being tied at 11 points each last Wednesday in the annual event backed by Tanduay Rum, Pepsi Cola, Broadwater Marine, Nano Fixit and JC and organized by the Subic Sailing Club.
