San Miguel-Alab Pilipinas saw its eight-game winning streak snapped yesterday after suffering a heartbreaking 90-89 loss to the Westports Malaysia Dragons in the ASEAN Basketball League at the MABA Stadium in Kuala Lumpur.
Fil-American Joshua Munzon split his two free throws with 8.9 seconds left before Alab’s Dondon Hontiveros missed an open three from the corner as time expired, giving Malaysia an upset victory.
Renaldo Balkman’s 33 points and 19 rebounds and Justin Brownlee’s 25 points went for naught as Alab blew an 82-74 lead with over six minutes left and dropped to third place with an 11-5 record.
The result allowed Thailand’s Mono Vampire (12-5) to climb in second while putting Chinese club Chong Son Kung Fu within striking distance in the race for third.
