Lyca Basa struck out five batters while giving up just three hits in a sterling pitching performance yesterday as Adamson blanked University of Santo Tomas, 6-0, to capture its eighth consecutive UAAP softball title at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium.
Basa retired the first nine batters she faced before tossing a complete-game shutout to help the Lady Falcons complete their recovery from a Game 1 setback and hoist another championship under veteran coach Ana Santiago.
The right-handed hurler got plenty of support on offense as Edna Severino hit a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBIs while Nichole Padasas also brought in two runners for Adamson.
Basa and Severino later shared the Finals Most Valuable Player as the Adamson completed a double victory on the diamond after the baseball team’s sweep of La Salle in the finals that ended Friday.
Adamson’s chances of extending its reign looked gloomy after dropping a 6-3 defeat in the series opener, but forced a rubber match Friday when it erupted for five runs in the sixth to claim an 8-5 victory.
