Are you the type of person who finds it difficult to refuse the requests of other people? Have you ever been in situations like these?
Your boss is asking you to do something. You already have a lot on your plate. You have so many things to do and have yet to finish, but then when you were a little bit pressured, you immediately said, “Yes, sir!
Or your friends are inviting you to go out on a gimmick. You really can’t go because you have homework to finish. Relatives who are fond of borrowing money and will even pressure you to give them money immediately.
Now the question is, why do you keep on saying YES? Why do you keep on accepting a task even when you know you can’t handle it?
Why can’t you say NO?
You need to know the main reason why you are always in this kind of situation. Is it because of your need to PLEASE OTHERS? Is it because you feel lesser of a person if you don’t give in to their demands?
Is it because you are afraid to be replaced or fired at work if you don’t comply?
Whatever your reasons are, find out first if they are valid or not. Is this a call of duty for you or are you just forcing yourself to do it? Do you do it with joy or do you do it with pressure or stress?
Because you keep on saying “YES,” look at what you’ve become now – tired and overstressed! You’re only 25 but you actually look like you’re 45! People have started to think that your mom is your sister! And that your dad is your younger brother! You don’t deserve this kind of life. You deserve better!
The truth of the matter is this: No one should be able to pressure and give you a hard time at life, but only YOURSELF.
Come on, don’t keep on saying that you are just being forced to do what you are doing. You agreed to it, so you also wanted it! Don’t say that you didn’t have any choice. You had a choice, and you chose it. You tolerated it. And now, you are being abused.
They are already taking advantage of your weakness which is the weakness of not being able to say “NO!”
THIS IS MY TIP FOR YOU TODAY! LEARN HOW TO SAY “NOOOO!!!”
Let’s practice, “NOOOOO!!!” Come on, say it out loud again, “NOOOOO!!!”
Learn to put your foot down. You don’t have to become a MAN-PLEASER.
Instead, God should be your focus. Ask yourself, are you in any way pleasing man or is your goal to please God?
Don’t be afraid to be rejected. God accepts you and who you are. Don’t be afraid that you might be fired from your job. God is your provider. Don’t be afraid of what other people will say about you. If God is for you, who can be against you?
Do you get it now? It’s time to set yourself free from stress and unwanted pressures in life.
TAKE YOUR TIME.
Think long and hard about a request first before saying yes to it. Identify first the pros and cons of a probable decision and HOW THIS WILL AFFECT YOU in the end.
If ever that you decide to say no to the request, OFFER AN ALTERNATIVE. Ask if you can do it the next day, or ask someone to help you finish the task. Be HONEST and STRAIGHT with what you really feel in a manner that is still respectful.
Remember, people will understand a sincere heart. NEVER UNDERESTIMATE the power of saying, “NO.”
THINK. REFLECT. APPLY.
Are you ready to make a stand and say “No”? What are the things that YOU can say NO to? Are you ready to please God, not man?
