President Duterte has threatened to throw any International Criminal Court representative who will visit the country and investigate the administration’s war on illegal drugs in jail.
The President said it was illegal to conduct such inquiry since the founding treaty of the ICC was not a valid law in the country.
“There has to be a publication. If there is no publication, it is as if there is no law at all. Kaya ikaw Ms. Fatou, ‘wag kang pumunta dito because I will bar you not because I am afraid of you, I said, because you will never have jurisdiction over my person, not in a million years,” Duterte said during a press conference in Davao City early yesterday morning.
“But what is your authority now? If we are not members of the treaty, why are you f****** in this country? You cannot exercise any proceedings here without basis. That is illegal and I will arrest you,” he added.
Duterte was referring to ICC prosecutor Fatou Bensouda who recently announced a preliminary probe into the alleged crimes committed in the Philippine government’s campaign against illegal drugs.
