Thousands of taxpayers nationwide were able to beat the deadline in the submission of 2017 Income Tax Returns yesterday and top officials of the Bureau of Internal Revenue described the annual exercise as “orderly” and “smooth.”
BIR Commissioner Caesar R. Dulay, together with four other deputy commissioners, visited the tax filing centers of four Metro Manila revenue regions and expressed satisfaction over the outcome.
There was no hustling as taxpayers waited patiently to be assisted by revenue officers as they partook free drinks, sandwiches, cookies, or crackers.
Before closing operations at 5 p.m., the tax filing centers accepted even out-of-district returns, including ITRs filed by large taxpayers, on the condition that the documents are forwarded within two weeks to the rightful audit offices.
“What is important is that taxes are collected,” said BIR Depurty Commissioner for Operations Arnel Guballa.
