A department undersecretary will be next on the chopping block amid President Duterte’s intensified campaign against corruption in government.
Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque said he might announce the firing of the government official on Thursday’s press briefing in Malacañang.
“Alam ko meron talagang Usec na scheduled para sibakin,” Roque said in a television interview.
“Pero tinanong na po ako ng PMS at ang sabi ko sa Thursday po muli sa Palasyo ang aking susunod na press briefing. Baka doon na po talaga pormal na i-anunsyo,” he added.
President Duterte recently revealed that he has fired another set of high government officials for alleged involvement in corruption.
Duterte, in a speech at the oath-taking ceremony of new government officials, said he was disappointed with the sacked officials since they were long-time allies. He said they were among those who encouraged him to run for president in the last 2016 elections.
“But you know as supporters, early on, even during my mayorship days, they were already around and yet to f*** around eh nakakahiya,” Duterte said. “Alam ninyo ang ayaw kong mahiya. I’ll be frank with you,” he said.
