The government is expected to unveil a package of benefits for workers in observance of Labor Day on May 1, Malacañang said yesterday.
“Well, inaasahan naman po natin na kahit papaano eh may mabibigay na benepisyo, dahil traditional naman po iyan pagdating ng May 1,” Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque said in a television interview.
Roque, however, did not say yet if wage benefits would be part of the government’s Labor Day gift to workers this year.
At present, Malacañang has not released President Duterte’s schedule for the May 1 holiday.
Last year, the President observed Labor Day in Davao City and reaffirmed his vow to stop end-of-contract scheme or “endo” and labor-only contracting. Duterte, who also held dialogues with labor groups, insisted that the Labor Code guarantees the right to security of tenure.
The President, meantime, has recognized the urgency to finalize an executive order seeking to stop endo, citing the “unrest” in the labor sector.
