Ray Parks Jr. tries to accomplish what his late great father failed to do six years earlier when San Miguel Alab Pilipinas tries to win the ASEAN Basketball League crown in next week’s finals series.
Seven-time PBA Best Import Bobby Parks was coach of the San Miguel Beermen when they lost to the Stanley Pringle-led Indonesia Warriors in the 2012 ABL Finals, his last basketball endeavor before passing away five years due to cancer.
The younger Parks got a chance to complete a sort of unfinished business after Alab dethroned Hong Kong Eastern with a stunning sweep of their semifinal series that ended Sunday with a 79-72 win in Sta. Rosa, Laguna.
“His last mark was in the ABL, and for me, I wanted to do the ABL first before I step into the PBA or whatever God has planned for me,” Parks said. “Of course, to win the championship is definitely the goal, winning the championship for him is great.”
Alab advanced to the finals after overcoming a 0-3 start behind the arrivals of imports Justin Brownlee and Renaldo Balkman in early-January.
