EQUAL TO – The last time, Highspeed cited the three fine films of Cesar Montano, all in artistic collaboration with the late Marilou Diaz Abaya. “Jose Rizal,” “Muro Ami,” and “Bagong Buwan.”
This time around, Highspeed singles out Ricky Davao, award-winning actor and equal to any role, be it lead or supporting, drama or comedy, action or even bold, offbeat. And not only onscreen (movie and TV) but stage, as well.
An all around actor.
Highspeed zeroes in on Ricky’s movie roles, topped by “Saranggola,” directed by the late Gil Portes. “Saranggola” was the country’s official submission to the Oscars and competed at the Moscow International Film Festival. Which Ricky attended along with Gil and Jeniffer Sevilla.

OTHER FINE FILMS – What are the other fine films of Ricky?
As they come to mind:
Marilou Diaz Abaya’s “Ipaglaban Mo,” where he played a rapist, with Chin-Chin Gutierrez as his victim and Joel Torre as the husband.
Eddie Garcia’s “Saan Nagtatago ang Pag-ibig,” as the spoiled brother of Tonton Gutierrez and the “tormentor” of Vilma Santos.
Joey Reyes’ “Minsan May Isang Puso,” as the bitter “panadero” with the young Carlo Aquino.
Lino Brocka’s “White Slavery,” co-starring with sex symbols Jaclyn Jose, Sarsi Emmanuelle, and Emily Loren. Ricky recalled that in a swimming pool scene, Brocka asked him if he could go totally nude like his three leading ladies.
He initially said yes but later realized he couldn’t. “Lagyan ng plaster si Ricky,” Brocka ordered Joey Luna, production designer.
Maryo J. de los Reyes’ “Ric ‘n’ Roll,” with Nora Aunor, one of his early movies.
Carlitos Siguion Reyna’s “Azucena,” where he played an evil policeman, and “Ang Lalaki sa Buhay ni Selya,” as the gay husband of Rosanna Roces.
Laurice Guillen’s “American Adobo,” shot in New York. Ricky played a closet gay in love with his friend (Christopher de Leon).
The list is by no means complete. Not mentioned are indies he did lately which gave him awards here and abroad.

STAGE ROLES – Ricky also excelled in stage roles.
Think “Felipe de las Casas,” “Larawan,” “Bongbong at Kris,” “Insiang.”
By the way, Ricky’s also film and TV director.
