President Duterte on Saturday said that he has fired two more government officials for corruption.
He did not name the two officials but one of them was an undersecretary. The President said he has an affidavit stating that they committed corruption.
Duterte, in a speech at the 24th National Federation of Motorcycle Clubs of the Philippines annual convention in Legazpi City, Albay, reiterated that he is trying to fulfill one of his campaign promises – to weed out corrupt government officials – in their firing.
“‘Pag sinabi kong I am trying, it would be at the expense of government people who are into corruption,” he said. “Talagang hindi ko talaga tatanggapin yan. The other day I fired two. One undersecretary,” he added.
Duterte reminded government workers to respect the public who are paying their salaries.
“Be courteous to your employers kasi sila diyan nagbayad ng sweldo natin. Do not consider yourself, you know, sit on your table as if you are an official. You are not, actually,” Duterte said, referring to the public.
“We are workers of government and we are mandated to serve the public. Then you have to be courteous and protect the money of the people.” (Argyll B. Geducos)
