Game Wednesday (The Arena, San Juan City)
2 p.m. — Ateneo vs FEU (Men)
Two-time defending champion La Salle disposed of National University, 27-25, 25-22, 25-11, last night to earn the right to meet host Far Eastern University for the UAAP Season 80 women’s volleyball crown.
Veteran Kim Kianna Dy led La Salle with 17 points while do-it-all libero Dawn Macandili had 23 excellence digs and 10 successful receptions.
It marked La Salle’s 10th straight finals appearance.
National team standout Jaja Santiago also finished with 17 points but failed to draw help from NU teammates.
“Sabi ko sa kanila, ‘Huwag nating bigyan ng chance na makakuha ng kumpiyansa ang NU kasi mahirap ang pagdadaanan natin,’” said La Salle coach Ramil De Jesus.
In men’s play, star spiker Bryan Bagunas led the way as NU stamped its class over University of Santo Tomas, 25-13, 25-13, 31-29, yesterday to book a return ticket to the finals.
The 6-foot-4 Bagunas shone with a game-high 29 points.
NU advanced to the best-of-three finals for the sixth straight time and will face either three-time defending champion Ateneo or host Far Eastern University, which will square off in a sudden-death showdown on Wednesday.
“Wala naman kaming preferred opponent. Basta paghahandaan namin kung sino man ang makakalaban namin sa finals,” said NU coach Dante Alinsunurin. (Jerome Lagunzad)
