President Duterte has called on motorcycle riders and enthusiasts to promote road safety by being drug- and alcohol-free.
Duterte said that while alcohol cannot be totally avoided, bikers should really be careful and don’t drive if they had a drink.
“Do keep in mind that it is not just purely an adventure when you are on the road. I ask you to promote road safety and observing traffic rules, wearing proper protection, and being – ito talaga: Alcohol- and drug-free,” the motorcycle enthusiast Duterte said at the three-day 24th annual convention of National Federation of Motorcycle Clubs of the Philippines in Legazpi City, Albay last Saturday.
“Tutal may mga security guards man diyan sa building, iwan mo na lang ‘yung motor mo. If you cannot take it, do not ride,” he added.
Duterte urged motorcycle riders to support the development of the country’s tourism industry. “While this pursuit enables you to travel to other places, you may always take this as an opportunity to be a part of our collective responsibility to foster solidarity and progress in our communities,” he said.
The Chief Executive said that the government is well on its way towards eliminating the country’s social ills, the riders’ proactive participation in nation-building by upholding peace and order, preserving national security, and eliminating misfits in society is needed.
“Remember that your greater participation in our fight against illegal drugs, criminality, and corruption is crucial to our goal of uplifting the lives of the Filipino people,” he said.
Duterte asked participants to cultivate the values of camaraderie, brotherhood, and mutual respect.
After his speech, Duterte inspected motorcycles that were displayed at the venue, such as Ducati, Harley-Davidson, Kawasaki, BMW, and Indian Motorcycle Philippines. (Argyll Geducos)
