BUTUAN CITY – The regional office of the Department of Health (DoH) here has reported a rise in the number of cases of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection.
A disease surveillance report of the DoH in Region 13 showed that 19 new HIV-AIDS cases were recorded in January this year alone.
Last year, only five cases were recorded on the same period. DoH officials said “18 (95%) of the cases were acquired through sexual contact, 12 (63.2%) of which were through homosexual contact.”
The Caraga Epidemiology Surveillance Report said over-all data showed the age range of those afflicted fall mostly under the 15-50 years old age group.
