After he was removed as Social Security System commissioner due to issues on public funds, Jose Gabriel La Viña is back with a new post in government.
President Duterte has appointed La Viña as undersecretary of the Department of Tourism, Malacañang said yesterday.
La Viña will take the place of DoT Undersecretary for Administration and Special Concerns Rolando Cañizal and his appointment paper was signed by the President last April 24.
Presidential spokesman Harry Roque said the President’s decision to appoint La Viña despite being sacked from the SSS was a presidential prerogative.
The President decided not to renew the terms of La Viña and SSS Chairman Amado Valdez last February who were serving in holdover capacities since June 2017.
Malacañang said that La Viña was dismissed for demanding a R26-million budget for a social media project which was denied. (Genalyn D. Kabiling)
