The service of an arrest warrant turned bloody after the target’s cohort was killed during a shootout with police officers in Caloocan City Wednesday night, police reported yesterday.
Operatives of Police Community Precinct (PCP) 3 went to Bagong Silang around 7 p.m. to serve an arrest warrant for murder issued by Caloocan City Regional Trial Court Branch 122 against Amado Lat, the second most wanted person in the city.
It was learned that Lat, a former community leader, allegedly shot dead a certain Joan Nalayug during a scuffle when the barangay official tried to stop a drinking session in 2008.
Upon seeing the approaching police officers, Lat’s cohort identified as Frederick Gregorio allegedly fired shots at them. The cops retaliated, hitting Gregorio in the body. PO1 Isaac Orillanes was hit by shrapnel in his abdomen during the shootout.
Gregorio was brought to Jose Rodriguez Memorial Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.
Lat and another cohort identified as Alfie Hingabay, on the other hand, managed to escape through the window of the house.
Recovered from the scene were a caliber .38 pistol, four empty shells, two live ammunion, and three deformed slugs.
