THIRD GENERATION ARTISTA: Rising singer Sofia Gonzalez Romualdez launched her new single recently at the Manila Polo Club. She belongs to the third generation of artists that started with Jose Mari Gonzales, a popular leading man in the 1950s and 60s, who starred opposite the likes of movie queens Amalia Fuentes and Susan Roces. They all belonged to Sampaguita Pictures back then.
Jose Mari later contributed his two daughters, Ana Margarita and Cristina, who also became movie actors. Of the two, Cristina rose to become a big star and show performer. She later entered public service, currently as mayor of Tacloban City.
Sofia is daughter to Cristina.
Now it can be clearly said that the 18-year old is following in the star-studded footsteps of her family. She has stepped into the spotlight in the music industry as a signed artist under Viva Records.

SHE WRITES HER SONGS: Two years ago, Sofia debuted with her single “Pikit Mata,” first heard as part of the soundtrack of the movie “FanGirl FanBoy.”
She’s back with a new sound, “Thinkin’ Of U,” a song which she also wrote. The song is in the key of R&B.
Sofia says she has always been passionate about music since she was young.
“Music was always in me, there was never really a time where it wasn’t my passion. I never really saw myself doing anything else besides music as I was growing up.”
She says she wants to stay focused on singing, reason why she ignores offers to act in films just like her mother and grandfather before her.
