Nine barangay officials and their supporters have been killed two weeks before the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections, the Philippine National Police reported yesterday.
PNP spokesman Chief Supt. John Bulalacao said that the first election-related violent incident was reported on April 15, a day after the nationwide gun ban was implemented.
Bulalacao said four of the fatalities were barangay captains while the others were barangay councilors and companions of barangay captains. (Aaron B. Recuenco)
