Top two teams Ceres-Negros and Davao Aguilas posted convincing wins over the weekend just in time for their marquee clash for the lead in the Philippines Football League today.
Two late goals by Patrick Reichelt sealed Ceres’ 4-1 victory over slumping JPV-Marikina while James Younghusband also produced a brace in Davao’s 3-0 romp of Global-Cebu.
Ceres remained on top of the league table with 12 points after four matches, one clear of Davao which has a game at hand.
Both clubs dispute the lead at 4 p.m. today at Rizal Memorial, with Davao still holding home matches in Manila due to the unavailability of the Davao del Norte Sports Complex in Tagum City.
Global and JPV have also been allowed by the league to stage home games from their respective cities due to similar reasons.
Bienvenido Maranon and Jeff Christieans scored in the first 20 minutes for Ceres before Reichelt struck twice in the 78th and 83rd to deal JPV its fourth straight defeat.
Meanwhile, Phil Younghusband opened the scoring for Davao off a spot kick in the 15th after Global was called for a handball inside the box.
Brother James then scored in the 51st and 64th as the Aguilas kept Global at the bottom of the standings with just one point in five matches.
