The government is determined to improve the labor situation after a research group reported that more than one million people joined the ranks of the underemployed and part-time workers in the country.
“Government continues to address and improve the labor situation in the country,” presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said.
In its latest labor force data, IBON Foundation said the number of underemployed increased to 7.5 million in January this year from 6.4 million in January 2017. Part-time workers also rose to 14.7 million in January 2018 from 13.4 million in January 2017.
Roque highlighted that the country’s employment rate has risen while unemployment rate has dropped under President Duterte’s watch.
