La Salle rebuilt its three-peat championship dynasty in UAAP women’s volleyball after besting Far Eastern University, 26-24, 25-20, 26-24, in Game 2 of their finals series yesterday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Boasting of a formidable lineup spearheaded by Kim Dy, the Lady Spikers rose to the Lady Tamaraws’ early challenge and held their composure in the next two frames to sweep their best-of-three titular affair.
The Taft-based squad took Game 1, 29-27, 25-21, 25-22, last Saturday.
La Salle’s feat extended its dominance in the league following back-to-back crowns, while duplicating its three-peat performance from 2003-2005 and 2010-2012.
It was also La Salle’s 11th title in the league – all under coach Ramil De Jesus.
“Hindi ko na talaga binibilang yon. Pag dumating yung mga ganitong situation and yung mga opportunity, hindi na talaga namin binibitawan,” said De Jesus.
Down 24-21, La Salle turned things around by scoring five straight points including back-to-back hits from Dy to claim the opening set.
It gave La Salle the needed boost to dictate the tempo in the second frame, before surviving another ferocious run from FEU in the third where the Lady Tamaraws saved four matchpoints before eventually bowing to the Lady Spikers.
