DARAGA, Albay – The town of Daraga in Albay has a new chief executive, following the death of elected mayor Gerry Jaucian who succumb to lung cancer early morning on Friday.
Vice Mayor Carlwyn Baldo assumed as the new mayor and it was finalized as he took his oath later Friday at the office of Albay Governor Al Francis Bichara. First Councilor Victor Perete took over the post of vice mayor.
“It is always painful to lose a loved one. May the comfort of God embrace those he has left behind through this difficult time. The whole Daraga mourns for the death of our beloved Mayor Gerry Jaucian,” Baldo said.
Meantime, a regional trial court (RTC) has stopped the Camarines Sur provincial government from pursuing the expropriation proceedings over the lands owned by farmers to give way for the expansion of an airport development project in the province.
A copy of trial court’s order issued by RTC Judge Vivencio Gregorio Atutubo was obtained from the Department of Justice (DoJ).
The trial court ruled that the Camarines Sur provincial government headed by Gov. Miguel Luis R. Villafuerte is not the right party-in-interest to pursue the expropriation of the affected lands.
It said the expropriation proceedings should have been commenced by the Office of the Solicitor General (OSG). (Niño Luces and Rey Panaligan)
