AND MORE – Eric Quizon is actor and director…and more. He’s also writer, producer, businessman, and fashion plate.
Eric just directed Regal’s “My 2 Mommies,” starring Paolo Ballesteros and Solenn Heussaff and child actor Marcus Cabais, with the special participation of her good friend Maricel Soriano. He and Maricel have been together on the big screen and television, but this is the first he directed the Diamond Star. A most pleasant experience as the cast is very good and professional.
He’s written and produced several movies and television shows including those topbilled by his dad, the legendary King of Comedy, Dolphy. Eric has a business in Hong Kong (organizing celebrity events) and to date remains a fashion plate. After all, he started as a ramp model right after finishing college at Ateneo.
After “My 2 Mommies,” Eric will direct a Maricel Soriano starrer.
AWARDS – As actor Eric has several awards: Metro Manila Film Festival best actor for Jun Urbano’s “Juan Tamad at Mr. Shooli sa Mongolian Barbecue.” Best supporting actor from the FAMAS for Carlitos Siguion Reyna’s “Hihintayin Kita sa Langit” and another best supporting actor from Urian for Ishmael Bernal’s “Pahiram ng Isang Umaga.’
Eric’s at home in drama and comedy and even did contravida and offbeat roles.
Remember his comic tandem with Redford White in “Buddy and Sol”? How about “Pusong Mamon” with Albert Martinez and Lorna Tolentino, where he and Albert played gay partners. Director Joel Lamangan got sick midway in the shoot and Eric took over.
Oh, not to forget Gil Portes’ “Markova,” where Eric and brother Epi played the young Dolphy. Father and sons were named best actor and best actress combined in Brussels. It was a first in an international filmfest, history.
INSPIRED BY – Of Eric’s directorial assignments, this columnist likes him best in “Langit sa Piling Mo,” inspired by his very own mother’s search for her American father. It was a road movie, a trip from West to East Coasts. Eric’s Mom’s is Alice Smith.
Looking forward to “My 2 Mommies” which has a message for all, to mothers in particular. Which is being mother has nothing to do with gender. Opening on May 6.
By the way, Eric is one of the nicest and friendliest guys in showbiz.
