After enjoying the pristine waters of El Nido in Palawan, Floyd Mayweather jetted back to Manila yesterday for a photo shoot and the likelihood of a meeting with Manny Pacquiao appears slim as the US fighter is set to do another round of shooting today.
Mayweather, who arrived early Tuesday morning, is supposed to leave today but the possibility of him extending his stay remains high given the many opportunities available.
A meeting with Manny Pacquiao is being arranged but for it to happen, that would entail Mayweather flying to General Santos City where the Filipino is currently training for the July 15 crack at the world welterweight title of Lucas Matthysse in Malaysia.
There is also the likelihood of Pacquiao taking time off from his preparations for Matthysse and meet up with his archrival in Manila to fuel talks about a rematch following their May 2015 scuffle that didn’t live up to the hype.
Upon his arrival a couple of days ago, Mayweather swore that his days as a fighter is over and that the only way he will return to competitive fighting is if there is an offer that can’t be refused in mixed martial arts.
In his last fight in August 2017, Mayweather defeated MMA superstar Conor McGregor in a fight that was held using boxing rules.
If he ever fights again, Mayweather, who turned 41 last February, said that it will be in the Octagon, the stage being used in the UFC.
But Mayweather didn’t totally shut the doors on a boxing comeback, adding that “we don’t know what the future holds.”
In his exceptional career spanning two decades, Mayweather faced and beat the very best.
