Iloilo City – The skeletal remains of an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) murdered in South Korea is finally on its way to Cabatuan here.
The Western Visayas regional consular office of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) confirmed the family of Angelo Claveria already filed the necessary forms needed to retrieve his remains.
Anita Saldo, who is acting chief of the DFA regional consular office in Iloilo City, said the forms were already forwarded to the DFA Central Office. It will be sent to the Philippine Embassy in Seoul.
To recall, the bones of the 34-year-old were found by South Korean authorities April 3, inside a septic tank in Hwaseong City, Gyeonggi province.
The murdered OFW’s identity was confirmed after the Cebu consulate of the Embassy of South Korea obtained a DNA sample from Claveria’s mother, which matched with the skeletal remains.
Claveria left for South Korea in 2014 for work. The last time the family heard from him was in December 2015.
The family sought the help of authorities in an effort to ascertain Claveria’s situation early this year after the story of murdered OFW Joanna Demafelis made headlines.
South Korean Police is said to be looking into the possibility a fellow OFW killed Claveria noting how someone has been assuring the family he was all right long after he died.
They added the murderers also stole all of Claveria’s belongings, including a bank deposit amounting to P60,000.
