An Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) sub-leader together with his five followers surrendered to government forces in Basilan on Wednesday.
Brig. Gen. Juvymax R. Uy, Joint Task Force (AFP-JTF) Basilan chief, said ASG sub-leader Apan Apino alias Mudzrin along with five of his followers surrendered at Brgy. Sinulatan, Tuburan, Basilan through the help of local citizenry.
“We have won over several communities that used to support the Abu Sayaff,” Uy said.
Through their continued efforts, some ASG members have since learned there is life beyond banditry.
The surrendered ASGs admitted as much, relating how tiring it was for them to run and hide from government forces.
Uy is now calling on other ASG members to lay down their arms and avail of the governments’ livelihood program offer.
