PayMaya, getting a big lift from American import Tess Rountree, surprisingly beat Pocari Sweat-Air Force in just three sets, 25-20, 25-19, 25-22, in the 2018 Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference yesterday at the People’s Gym in Tuguegarao City.
The 6-foot-2 outside hitter produced 16 kills to finish with 18 points for the High Flyers in the event serving as the first stop of the “PVL on Tour.”
It was PayMaya’s second straight win following its 25-8, 33-31, 25-20 opening-day victory against Tacloban.
The High Flyers showed their might in the 76-minute match, with coach Roger Gorayeb experimenting with his lineup to get the right combination in outplaying the Lady Warriors.
But Rountree was almost unstoppable as she had already 11 kills after two sets.
Far Eastern University mainstay Jerrili Malabanan ably supported Rountree with 8 points, while guest player Shelby Sullivan chipped in eight points, including two blocks.
Libero Lizlee Ann Pantone and Aiko Urdas provided solid cover on the floor with combined 19 digs, while Jasmine Nabor had 20 excellent sets.
Myla Pablo unleashed 12 points, including 10 attacks but her effort went down the drain.
She was the lone double-digit scorer for Pocari as Jeanette Panaga and Madeline Palmer were held to nine points apiece.
The first out-of-town sortie was hosted by the Province of Tuguegarao and backed by Toyota Tuguegarao, Globe, Mikasa, Asics, Puregood and Robinsons Malls.
