The Philippines will host the Asian Universities chess championships from May 26 to June 2 at the Tagaytay International Convention Center in Tagaytay City.
Top schools in the region have been invited to take part in the nine-round Swiss System event which adopts a time control of 90 minutes plus 30-second increments per move.
There will be team and individual competitions for men, women and junior categories. Each team is allowed to field a maximum of four players.
The team champions will be determined by the top three scores of their players.
Expected to lead the country’s campaign in the men’s division are UAAP champion National University and NCAA titlist San Beda University.
Olympian Paulo Bersamina is NU’s top player.
Far Eastern University, the reigning UAAP junior champion, has signified its intention to participate.
