President Duterte was unable to vote in the barangay elections yesterday, according to his top aide.
Duterte was supposed to cast his vote at the Daniel Aguinaldo High School in Matina, Davao City but failed to show up before the polling places closed at 3 p.m.
Special Assistant to the President Christopher “Bong” Go did not cite a reason for Duterte’s absence.
Duterte was also supposed to sit on the old wooden chair he used during the 2016 presidential elections.
The “seat of victory” was enclosed in a glass casing since Duterte became President. School officials immediately set the chair aside on May 9, 2016 after Duterte used it and did not let other voters use it that day.
Go cast his vote in the afternoon at the Buhangin Central Elementary School also in Davao City.
Aside from Go, the other Cabinet members showed up in their respective polling precincts.
Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque arrived at his polling station in Barangay White Plains, Quezon City around 11:30 a.m. while Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Martin Andanar was at Pedro E. Diaz High School, Barangay Alabang, Muntinlupa at around 12:45 p.m. (Argyll Geducos and Yas D. Ocampo)
