After a year of absence, ONE Women’s atomweight champion Angela Lee promised to “remind the world” of her dominance as she prepares to defend her title against Mei Yamaguchi in the main event of ONE: Unstoppable Dreams, which will take place on Friday, May 18, at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
“Coming back to Singapore ready to defend my title, it’s a familiar feeling. At the same time, it feels new to me, after everything. It’s like a new beginning,” Lee stated during ONE Championship’s presser yesterday at the Marina Bay Sands, in Singapore.
Japan’s Yamaguchi expressed respect for the champion but she promised to be the first woman to stop the “Unstoppable.”
While Yamaguchi failed to conquer Lee two years ago, she is the first to take the undefeated star to a decision. Lee bested Yamaguchi via unanimous decision to retain her title in 2016.
“I respect Angela as an athlete and as a person, but I’m ready to give this bout my all. I am not the same martial artist as I was two years ago. I’ve made some key improvements to my game and I am excited to show everyone what I have worked so hard for,” said Yamaguchi.
In the co-main event, double-champion Martin “The Situ-Asian” Nguyen returns to his natural weight class to defend his featherweight gold against Christian “The Warrior” Lee.
The champion assured a hard-hitting bout that will not go to distance. “This bout is going to end only one way, and that’s with him finishing me or me finishing him. We are both explosive and skilled, so I don’t see this bout going the distance,” Nguyen forecasted.
Unstoppable Dreams will also feature the in-ring return of Team Lakay ace Eduard Folayang, as he will try to bounce back against undefeated Russian Kharun Atlangeriev.
