Sudden rains and thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon or evening are expected to become more frequent as the country nears the onset of rainy season.
Rains, winds, and thunderstorms were felt in Metro Manila and other parts of the country in the past few days that lasted for about one to two hours.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration said thunderstorms are normal at this time of the year due to warm weather which make evaporation and condensation processes faster.
It occurs with the rapid upward movement of warm and moist air that cools, condenses, and forms cumulonimbus or thunder clouds. This activity is often associated with localized or isolated heavy rains or sometimes hail.
Today, PAGASA said the ridge of a high-pressure area, an anti-cyclone weather system, will affect Northern Luzon, while the easterlies, or warm and humid air, will prevail across the rest of the country.
Bicol will experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the easterly winds.
Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms. (Ellalyn V. Ruiz)
