IMUS CITY, Cavite – The beam of a flyover under construction in this capital city had collapsed before midnight Saturday after being hit accidentally by a moving crane in the area.
Police reported no casualties in the by-pass road accident on Daanghari Road and Aguinaldo Highway in Barangay Anabu at 11:45 p.m.
The beam collapse damaged a parked truck of JBL Builders, the constructing firm, and a motorcycle of an Imus Traffic Management officer parked under the flyover, police said.
The local police said they would hold two crane operators namely Ronido Morga and Bernabe Chavez for investigation.
Initial report released by Senior Superintendent William M. Segun, Cavite Police Provincial Office director, said that the flyover contractor is one William Uy and the construction is being done under joint venture with JBL Builders.
JBL Project in-charge contractor Jong Ilupit said that the accident happened they were installing the last guirdel at the site.
The crane accidentally hit the flyover capping beam and, as a domino effect, cause all the remaining five flyover guilders to fall.
“The crane operator miscalculated (the swift) and hit the flyover beam and the (eventual) fall of five guilders,” Ilupit told police.
The police and other concerned authorities had cordoned the area, making the site roads impassable to all vehicles.
