BACOLOD CITY (PNA) – The winning candidates for the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) chairman in three barangays in this city were proclaimed on Monday after a tiebreaker was conducted at the Commission on Elections Office (Comelec) here.
City Election Registrar Mavil Majarucon-Sia cited a provision of the Omnibus Election Code, which states that in case of a tie, the two rival candidates may agree to a coin toss or a drawn lot to determine the winner.
She said the candidates agreed to drawing of lots to break the tie.
The Barangay Board of Canvassers (BBoC) proclaimed as winners the ones who picked the sheet of paper with the word “congratulations” written on it.
For Barangay 21, Eugemar Rebosa prevailed over Andres Emmanuel Gohee. Both got 52 votes each.
Charise Tayapad and Blessy Go tied for 158 votes in Barangay 26, but Go was declared the winner after the tie-breaker.
For Barangay 38, Trexie Ann Panoncillo went home the winner. She tied for 105 votes with Kyra Epistola.
The candidates for SK and barangay kagawad who obtained the same number of votes also drew lots to determine their rankings.
Majarucon-Sia said Epistola expressed her intention to file for a recount.
