The Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC), private operator of Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1), this March filed for a P5-7 fare hike (end-to-end, from Roosevelt Avenue, Quezon City to Baclaran, Pasay City, currently at P30) to be implemented Aug. 1 in accordance with its concession agreement.
The fare adjustment will allow LRT1 to continue giving good service, LRMC President Juan F. Alfonso told reporters yesterday.
However, the proposed fare hike will still be taken up by the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) Board. Afterwards, it will be published and the board has to come up with a decision to grant the fare hike or not two weeks after.
The fare increase is part of the provision of the Concession Agreement between LRMC and the government, he reiterated. “The CA contained a schedule of fare increases to allow us to fund the transactions.”
A 5 per cent fare increase for LRT1 should have taken effect on Aug. 1, 2016 but was not implemented.
