Two absent without official leave policemen were arrested in a buy-bust operation in Rodriguez, Rizal last Thursday.
Chief Supt. Guillermo Eleazar, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon or Region 4-A police chief, identified the suspects as PO2 Benjo Sionilo, alias “Bedjo,” 37, and PO1 Ivan Henrick Tavas, alias “Ivan,” 33, both of Barangay Geronimo in Rodriguez.
Eleazar said that the Rizal Provincial Intelligence Board and Drug Enforcement Unit, Rodriguez Municipal Police Station, and Philippine Drug Enforcement Region 4-A arrested Sionilo and Tavas in Metro Montana, Barangay Burgos at around 10:20 p.m. after they sold a sachet of suspected shabu to a poseur-buyer.
Recovered from them were five sachets containing suspected shabu.
Sionilo, an 11-year police veteran, was last assigned at the Antipolo City Police Station but went AWOL just last March.
Tavas has been a member of the PNP for seven years and was last assigned at the Rizal Provincial Mobile Force Co. before being AWOL in July 2016 and March 2017.
Eleazar slammed the AWOL cops’ participation in the proliferation of illegal drugs in the community, instead of helping the police force in suppressing it.
