A 64-year-old inmate at the Manila Police District-Sampaloc Police Station (MPD-PS4) was found dead Friday morning inside his cell, a police report said. The victim, identified as Alejandro Uson, 64, of 2160 Gerardo Street, Sampaloc, Manila was declared dead-on-arrival by an attending physician at the Ospital ng Sampaloc.
According to SPO4 Glenzor Vallejo of MPD-Crimes Against Persons Investigation Section, the victim’s inmate, a certain Patchie Manap, discovered Uson unconscious at around 3:26 a.m. Manap reportedly attempted to wake Uson up but to no avail, prompting him to call the attention of police officers.
Uson was immediately rushed to the Ospital ng Sampaloc but was declared dead-on-arrival. Uson was reportedly detained in violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. Investigators are yet to determine if foul play was involved in the incident.
The possibility of suffocation due to overcrowding in the cell is also being eyed. Uson was being kept in a cell meant for 10 people but at the time was crowded with 38 inmates.
