2 p.m. – GSIS vs DOJ
3:30 p.m. – PNP vs Judiciary
5 p.m. – Senate vs AFP
Senate goes for a third straight win when it battles defending champion Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) tomorrow even as Philippine National Police (PNP) and Judiciary meet in a duel of favorites in the 2nd UNTV Cup Executive Face-Off at the Pasig City Sports Center.
The Senate Sentinels and AFP Cavaliers clash at 5 p.m. with the former out to follow up a massive 90-57 win over the GSIS Furies exactly a week ago.
In that win, Sen. Joel Villanueva shone brightest with 34 points while Warren Tan chipped in 17 points.
The Sentinels are expected to encounter a rough sailing this time since the Cavaliers are out to snap a two-game losing run in the tournament organized by UNTV president and CEO Daniel Razon.
But focus will be on the PNP-Judiciary tiff at 3:30 p.m.
Like Senate, both PNP and Judiciary are coming off impressive wins with the Responders of Director General Oscar Albayalde relying heavily on a big fourth quarter salvo to outlast the Ombudsman Graftbusters.
The Judiciary Magis, on the other hand, outlasted the AFP Cavaliers, 67-66, thanks to Jose Midas Marquez and Joey Yabut who both scored 18 points each.
Judiciary coach Warren Ybanez sees a down-the-wire showdown with the Responders.
“The PNP Responders are physically conditioned so they are quick. I always tell my players to be ready and be tough. We will work more on matching their endurance and agility,” said Ybanez.
Aside from Marquez, the Responders are preparing hard on how to slow down Magis’ big men Romulo Paras Jr. and Ian Ramoso.
“Our offense starts with our good defensive plays,” said PNP coach Alfred Suarez.
Clashing in the opening game at 2 p.m. are GSI and Department of Justice, two teams out to barge into the win column after dropping their opening games.
