Sen. Panfilo M. Lacson yesterday assured critics of the proposed national ID system that it has sufficient safeguards against information leakages and other possible form of abuses.
Lacson, principal author and sponsor of the measure in the Senate, said that the bill, considered a priority legislation by the Duterte administration, will make it more convenient for Filipinos to transact with any public or private agency once it is a law.
Congress is set to ratify the bicameral conference committee report this week before it adjourns its regular sessions on Wednesday.
The senator said the measure has enough precautions to protect cardholders against unlawful disclosures of information or records.
With the technical assistance of the Department of Information and Communications Technology and other related agencies, Lacson said cardholders would be protected against hacking and other information leakages, with the creation of the PhilSys Policy and Coordination Council. (Hannah L. Torregoza)
