GAYS – This is a sequel of sorts to “Showbiz lingo updated,” which came out in this column last May 23. Let’s start with those referring to gays.
“Paminta” or “Pamintuan,” meaning a gay person passing himself off as macho, as in “pa-mhin.”
“Pamintang buo” remains in the closet, while “pamintang durog” is out of the closet.
Variations are “Bading Garcia,” “lumba (lumang bakla),” and “jubelita (batang bading).”
“Tibo,” “tiboli” or “tiburcia” is lesbian.
ATES – There are many Ates (elder sister) in showbiz lingo:
“Ate Vi” (atrevida), “Ate Aida” (AIDS), “Ate Rita” (arthritis), “Ate Ana Conda” (snake or traitor), “Ate Vangie” (Ativan), and “Ate Lucrecia” (crazy).
MORE RHYME THAN – Before naming stars whose names are associated with showbiz lingo this reminder: it’s really more rhyme than reason.
Here they are:
“Sharon Stone” (shabu), “Tom Jones” (gutom), “Zsa Zsa Padilla” (siya, sige!), “Mahalia Jackson” (expensive), “Manilyn Reynes” (money, rain), “Julie Andrews” (caught, as in nahuli), “Pilita Corrales” (trying hard), “Jolina Magdangal”(circumcised), “Sunshine Cruz” or “Sunshine Dizon” (umaga na), “mudra” (mother), “chaka” (ugly), “eclavu” (my love), “okray” ( panned).
DOC PEREZ – As noted here earlier, Ambet Nabus is this year’s recipient of the coveted Dr. Jose R. Perez Memorial Award, given to outstanding media practitioners.
Previous awardees include the late Bibsy Carballo, Billy Balbastro, Emy Abuan, Ross Celino, Charri Araullo, and Mario d’Guzman Cruz.
It’s given by the Vera-Perez family led by Manay Ichu VP Maceda during FAMAS awards night.
Other awardees: Danny Dolor, Ethel Ramos, Nestor Cuartero, Ricky Lo, Butch Francisco, Jojo Gabinete, Mario Dumaual, Lhar Santiago, Dolly Anne Carvajal, and Cris Belen.
