ILOILO CITY – The PBA may revert to its original format of staging the All-Star Week in one city after the last two editions of the midseason extravaganza were held in three cities.
Commissioner Willie Marcial plans to propose the return of the old setup to the league’s board of governors with the aim of maximizing the staging of various events leading up to the centerpiece All-Star Game.
Among the functions held before the game are meet and greet sessions with fans and visits to a charitable institution.
While he deemed the three-leg series a success, Marcial is also taking into consideration the difficult task of having to move from one city to another with several players and staff taking part in all legs.
Among the players who took part in the three legs were June Mar Fajardo, Luzon leg MVP Terrence Romeo, Calvin Abueva and Jayson Castro.
The PBA began the current format last season under then-commissioner Chito Narvasa with games in Cagayan de Oro City, Lucena and Lapu-Lapu City.
This week’s festivities were held in Digos, Davao del Sur, Batangas City and in this bustling city.
The league hosted a single All-Star Game consecutively from 1989 to 2001, 2003 to 2008 and 2010 to 2016.
