The Senate Sentinels and Philippine National Police (PNP) Responders kept their share of the lead after pulling off similar scary wins in the 2nd UNTV Cup Executive Face-Off held over the weekend at the Pasig City Sports Center.
The Senate Sentinels went to Warren Tan in the crunch this time and eked out a 79-77 win over the defending champions Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Cavaliers for their third straight win in as many games in the annual event organized by UNTV president and CEO Daniel Razon.
Tan barreled his way to a game-high 23 points aside from dominating both ends with his inspired plays.
Tan got ample support from Senators Joel Villanueva and Sonny Angara who combined for 27 points.
The loss was another bitter pill to swallow for the Cavaliers, who absorbed their third straight defeat in the annual event for public servants.
The Responders, on the other hand, drew 26 points from Joshua Alejandro and 13 from Joel de Mesa to outlast the Judiciary Magis, 81-75.
In the other game of the 8-team tournament offering R1 million to the chosen charity of the champion team, the DoJ Boosters finally barged into the win-column with a 75-43 drubbing of the GSIS Furies.
DoJ’s win evened its record to 1-1 while the loss was the second straight for the Furies.
