‘STARSTRUCK’ – For the nth time, Highspeed is “starstruck,” thanks to Boze Hadleigh’s “Hollywood Babble On.” Sparks fly when co-stars are at war.
GEORGE CUKOR – “My film ‘Rich and Famous’ is a contemporary female ‘buddy’ movie as well as a remake of ‘Old Acquaintance,’ which starred Bette Davis and Mirriam Hopkins, who hated each other on and off the set. Jackie Bisset and Candice Bergen don’t hate each other, but there was definitely some competition between them. Miss Bergen ran with her more flamboyant role. Insiders are saying that she steals the picture right under Miss Bisset, that comedy is her forte. Both women are on par as beauties, but it must rankle Candice to have Jackie billed first – a reflection of the fact that Jackie hasn’t had as many flops as Candice had.
TOM TRYON – “In the late 1950s, I starred in a flick called ‘I Married a Monster from Outer Space.’ Even so, it took me another decade to quit films (and become a bestselling novelist). One of my co-horts in that particular space epic was an actor named Ty Hardin. A Clint Eastwood clone in looks and acting. If Hardin had become famous first, you’ve never have heard of Eastwood, instead of the other way ‘round. Hardin explained that his original name was Orson Hungerford, but he had to change it because the movie bigwigs didn’t like ‘Orson,’ as in Welles, and you couldn’t have ‘hunger’ in Hollywood, especially on a marquee!
“Not very long ago, I asked an associate, “Whatever happened to Ty Hardin? He became a minister! Have you noticed how many non-star actors become preachers? It permits them to keep overacting, without the guilt. Instead, they can lay the guilt on everyone else.
“My personal opinion is, never trust any ex-actor who becomes a preacher or a politician. Let them find honest work instead.”
“ROCK HUDSON – “I’m in love with Julie Andrews, yes. There’s nothing I wouldn’t say to her faces – both of them.”
