Malacañang has two words for ousted Chief Justice Maria Lourdes P.A. Sereno after she filed an appeal to reverse the decision of the Supreme Court to oust her through a quo warranto.
Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque wished Sereno good luck and appealed to wait for the process to unfold. “May proseso po ‘yan, sundan ang proseso and we wish her the best,” Roque said.
Roque responded to Sereno’s claim that the Duterte administration is continuing its persecution, especially now that the Bureau of Internal Revenue is investigating her.
“Well, I think for now she should worry whether or not her own colleagues will uphold their rulings against her,” he said.
In a historic vote, Sereno was ousted by her colleagues after the justices voted in favor of a quo warranto as a method of removing a Chief Justice. The quo warranto petition was filed by Solicitor General Jose Calida.
President Duterte in May insisted that he had nothing to do with Sereno’s ouster despite his earlier pronouncement that he will see to it that she will be removed from office.
“If there was one congresswoman or congressman, or Justice, single Justice magsabi may kinausap ako diyan na – I can guarantee you, I will resign,” Duterte said. “At tanungin niyo maski sino. I never lifted a finger…Kaya ngayon, I challenge everybody and anybody,” he added.
