TANAUAN – Host Philippines threw its full weight around Indonesia in two fronts to sweep the titles in the PONY Asia Pacific Zone Mustang-9 and Mustang-10 Baseball Championships before delighted supporters yesterday at Tanauan Sports Academy here.
Philippine representative Tanauan kicked off the dual romp in the finals of the tourney hosted by PONY Philippines headed by Tot Baseball president Boy Tingzon and co-hosted by Tanauan Mayor Tony Halili, clobbering the Indonesians in four innings, 23-2, to repeat as AsPac champs in the 9-year-old age group and clinch a ticket to the PONY International Mustang-9 World Series set July 27-30 in Walnut, California.
Pitcher Ace Aday Reyes delivered a stellar performance for the Filipinos, allowing a single one hit and striking out eight, while exploding for 16 hits in the abbreviated outing.
Not to outdone, home bet Manila Wildcats hammered out a vengeful 20-1 rout of holder Indonesia to regain the Mustang-10 crown it lost last year and advance to the Mustang-10 World Series slated Aug. 3-6 in Youngsville, Louisiana.
