The Philippine Lady Volcanoes came up with an explosive performance against India, 19-5, last Tuesday to book a final spot in the Division 1 Asia Rugby Women’s Championships in Singapore.
The Lady Volcanoes turned a tight start into a one-sided affair in muddy conditions behind a strong debut performance from Davao Durians’ Agot Danton and a sustained defensive lockdown on their Indian counterparts.
“I was happy with our performance. It’s such a great feeling winning the first game of the team’s comeback after six years,” said Cebu native Aiumi Ono, the current team captain of the Makati Chiefs and the Lady Volcanoes.
The Filipinas advanced to the final against host Singapore which will be played tomorrow night at the Queenstown Stadium.
It was star center Sylvia Tudoc who made her presence felt early on as she powered her way through the Indian defense to break the ice before Danton added two extra points to take a seven-to-nil lead at the half.
The Filipinas continued their onslaught in the second half, with Tanya Escala Bird driving her way through under the posts and Danton staying on the attack mode to double up their lead at 14 points.
