DAVAO CITY – Publisher and veteran journalist Dennis Wilfredo Denora, 67, was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Panabo City while onboard his car around 1:10 p.m. Thursday.
According to Panabo police, the victim died from multiple gunshot wounds.
His companion Mayonito Rivera, was wounded on the right hand and is now recuperating at a hospital.
The incident happened along the National Highway fronting Century Bank, Barangay New Pandan, Panabo City.
Retrieved from the crime scene were three fired bullets and one fired cartridge case from a .45 caliber pistol.
Police are still determining the motive of the killers.
The Philippine National Police said it would organize a special investigation task group specific to the case.
Denora was the publisher of the Trends & Time Newspaper in Davao del Norte.
He is known for his fearless reports both in newspaper and in radio.
Davao del Norte media condemned the incident deeming it a tragic reminder of the physical risks journalists take.
