Blues rock unit Anibughaw is back doing what they do best

The rock scene of the ‘90s gave birth to big-name acts like the Eraserheads, Wolfgang, Yano, the Youth, and the like.
Then there were those not as commercially successful, but equally talented if not more.
With songs like “Sativa Blues,” “Kulot,” and “Naligaw sa Paraiso,” to name a few, Anibughaw, at the time, was among the few rock bands brave enough to bring back blues and psychedelia to mainstream consciousness.
Their debut album “Buhay, Bahay at Halaman,” released in 1997, saw the group at their “rawest and bittersweet” best.
With dreamy vocals weaved into a tight but free-flowing blues-based rock and funk rhythm bed, it was clear Anibughaw shares the same lineage as Juan dela Cruz, Led Zep and the like.
Despite being featured in countless compilation albums as with numerous live performances at legendary haunts such as Kalye, Club Dredd, and Freedom Bar, the band would eventually fold. It was only in 2007 that the group started a rebuilding process.
The band’s present lineup include Kenneth Sesbreno on vocals, Beaujet Mayoralgo on guitars, Edward Handog on drums, Caloi Alejandro on bass and Ivan Carlo Villaruel on guitars.
Many of those who have seen the new line-up perform attest to the unit’s seemingly newfound ferociousness. Not a few believe, in fact, it is only just a matter of time before they get to cast their spell on the listening public.
