An alleged illegal drug peddler was killed in an encounter with the police during a buy-bust operation in Quezon City early yesterday morning.
Superintendent Giovanni Caliao, chief of Quezon City Police District Cubao Police Station (PS-7), identified the slain suspect as Darwin Cunanan, a resident of Mother Ignacia Street, Barangay Kaunlaran, Quezon City.
Investigators said Cunanan was known for selling drugs in his area.
Report showed that anti-narcotics operatives of PS-7 set a drug deal against Cunanan inside an apartelle at the corner of Aurora Boulevard and C. Benitez Street in Barangay Kaunlaran around 3:40 a.m.
An undercover police bought a P500 worth of shabu from the suspect.
When the poseur-buyer introduced himself as a police and was about to arrest Cunanan, the suspect pulled out a handgun and fired shots.
Back-up police officers fired back, hitting Cunanan.
The suspect was rushed to Quezon Memorial Medical Center where he succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds in the body.
