The Philippine Azkals have reportedly tapped the services of former England international Terry Butcher as replacement to long-time national team coach Thomas Dooley.
Scott MacArthur of the Scottish Sun reported the apparent appointment of the 59-year-old Butcher, who has played in three World Cups for England.
The Azkals management refused to confirm the hiring at presstime, though it has scheduled a press conference Thursday evening with the announcement of a new coach expected to be made.
Azkals team manager Dan Palami said last month that a possible hiring was to be announced in the said presscon.
Butcher played for Ipswich Town and Scottish giant Rangers while playing in the 1982, 1986 and 1990 World Cup for England.
He has also coached eight clubs but hasn’t had a job since a short spell at Newport County in 2015.
Dooley’s contract had expired last month, though his exit had been looming despite steering the Azkals to a historic qualification to next year’s Asian Cup in the United Arab Emirates.
