Southeast Asian Games gold medalists Nikko Huelgas and Kim Mangrobang will head the six-man national triathlon team in the Jakarta-Palembang Asian Games in Indonesia this August.
The names of Huelgas, a two-time SEA Games champion, and Mangrobang have been submitted recently by the Triathlon Association of the Philippines (TRAP) to the joint Philippine Sports Commission (PSC)-Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) Task Force.
Joining the two are John “Rambo” Chicano and Mark Hosana for the men’s, and Claire Adorna and Kim Kilgroe in the women’s division.
“This is the best of the best that we have,” said TRAP president Tom Carrasco yesterday when contacted by the Bulletin. “We already submitted their names to the POC and PSC.”
In the SEA Games last year in Malaysia, the Philippines finished 1-2 in both the individual categories as Huelgas completed his bid of back-to-back gold medals while Chicano pocketed the silver medal in the men’s, and then Mangrobang and Adorna placed first and second in the women’s.
